Perseverance (Ship : 1795-1827) logbook, 1800-1801.

The logbook of the ship Perseverance details a shipping voyage from Boston to Guangzhou Shi (Canton), the Alas Strait and Sumbawa, Indonesia, Sept. 1800-Nov. 1801. The return voyage was made in a naval convoy. The ship's home port was Salem, Mass.; the owner was Simon Forrester; the master and logbook keeper was Richard Wheatland. The logbook contains poetry and sea songs, notes on shipboard occupations, and equipment and supplies aboard ship, specifically provisions. During its voyage, the Perseverance spoke the schooners Albust (out of New Haven) and Betsy (out of Beverly, Mass.); the ships Ann (out of Boston), Richmond (out of Philadelphia), and Britannia; the brigs Sally (out of Philadelphia) and Queen Charlotte; and the vessels (of unknown rigging) Elinore (out of Baltimore) and Pacific Trader (out of Boston).
